Boyle Heights Technology Academy (BHTA)
The Tech Center houses the Boyle Heights Technology Academy (BHTA). BHTA is a bold innovation in public education launched in September 2006 jointly by the Los Angeles County Office of Education and the Community Development Department. The school focuses on three principles:
  • Academic excellence through standards-based learning,
  • Connections to real world professionals, and
  • A common intellectual mission.
  • Innovative features of the program also include work place internships for qualifying students and close links to successful high tech environments. BHTA is a high school that emphasizes a rigorous curriculum that challenges its students. The difference between BHTA and most LAUSD high schools is the school size and classroom size, which averages 20-25 students per teacher. One other difference is prospective BHTA students are required to apply and go through an interview process with a carefully selected panel to become part of the student body.

For more information about the program and how to apply contact Sandra Esqueda at 323-264-9163.
